I spent last week in DC and was desperate to take advantage of the 60+ degree weather. After 4 weeks of my self-designed rehab program, I figured it was time to take a chance on my feet again. So, last Tuesday morning I set out from my hotel for a jog around the Smithsonian. It took me 48 minutes to cover 4 miles, but it felt great! Courtesy of mapmyrun.com here's what it looked like:
Since I didn't want to push it too hard, I decided to play it safe on Wednesday morning and workout on the elliptical machine. Then I made another dire error by spending the rest of the day traipsing around the city in heels. Ladies, take a note... do not, I repeat do not workout on an elliptical machine in the morning and then trek miles in heels all day long. That is, unless you are fond of your calves being tied up in knots of fire. It took me three days to uncramp my calves. I'm not kidding.
By Sunday, with the assistance of compression tights, I was ready to run again. Another four miles on the treadmill with no significant ill effects. I've still got a long way to go to get back to my regular 10-mile long runs, but damn it feels good to run at all.
In spite of an overnight travel delay that made me miss my Saturday morning spinning class (thank you United), the miles are still adding up. Here's the damage since my last post:
Days 128-139, January 21 through February 3
96 miles logged spinning, cycling, elliptical, and yes, running!
813 miles completed, 586 more to go...
